Christy Clark has no problems whatsoever with the #1 CORPORATE BULLY (which has 'proudly' won that title, by a landslide, for 46 consecutive years!): The tobacco industry.
Wednesday, April 14, 2010, is the third annual Pink Shirt day in B.C. That's the day when we're all supposed to wear pink, to send a message to bullies that, "The bullying stops here." Hell, there was even a proclamation in the provincial legislature, where Christy Clark was recognized for her wonderful work...and April 14 was officially proclaimed, "Pink Shirt Day."
There's no question: Bullying -- whether it takes place in the schoolyard, at the workplace, in the home, via the Internet, etc. -- is an extremely serious issue... and, on behalf of Airspace Action on Smoking and Health, I would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies and our most sincere condolences to everyone who has ever been hurt or killed as a result of bullying.
However, if Christy Clark hopes to retain any credibility whatsoever, she needs to acknowledge 1) that Corporate Bullying exists and 2) that no other corporation even comes close -- in terms of the pain and suffering...the disease, disability and premature death it causes -- to the tobacco industry!
Clearly, there are no age restrictions in terms of who can be a victim of bullying. But I think we would all agree that bullying is most offensive when it occurs to the most innocent and vulnerable members of our society: Children.
And no corporation bullies children more than the tobacco industry! None! Corporate bullying is often very subtle and/or subliminal, but that doesn't make it any less effective and powerful, leading many kids to an extremely expensive life-long addiction and, in many cases, disease, disability and, on average, a 15 - 20% shorter life! If that's not bullying, I don't know what is!
Give me a call one day, Christy! Invite me into your (CKNW) studio...and let's chat about tobacco industry bullying, with all the world listening, shall we? You can even bring along your brother, who profited handsomely from his involvement with the world's best/worst (depending on your perspective) corporate bullies!
